History :
After the bifurcation of Palamau district Garhwa was formed. The district
is formed of two sub divisions of Garhwa and Nagar Untari. The nine blocks
in the district are : Bhandaria, Bhawanathpur, Chainpur, Dhurki, Garhwa,
Majhiaon, Meral, Ranka and Untari.

Communication
: Roads connecting nearby areas are there. The most important of the roads
is the Garhwa-Daltonganj road. Eastern Railway has its presence in the
district. Agriculture : Paddy is the main crop. Wheat, maize, sugarcane
are also grown.

Because of cultivation of lac, small industries based on this are there. A
number of small units making biris and stone chips are there.
