No Relief to Starved

Almost every year the State Government declares the State as a drought prone and instructs the districts administrations to provide food grains to the sufferers who are mainly the people living below the poverty line (BPL). Despite granting money to assist the state, not a single person facing starvation has benefited from the relief operational of the state govt.

The Govt. so far has sanctioned 3.90 crores after the formation of Jharkhand State to provide food grain as a part of relief operation to the people suffering from the recurrent drought. However only Rs. 99 lakhs have been spent so far!

The situation turned out to be very shocking during this financially year (2005-2006). Under the food program, the govt. sanctioned and released money to almost all the blocks facing the drought conditions. Under this scheme food grains was to be provided at BPL rate and against “Food for Work“ at village level. However the sufferers were devoid of food grains as they became the real victim of the bureaucratic mess. Till date (as financial year is nearing end) not a single penny has been spent for this purpose in any of the district of the state.
