Two mobile
educational units are running, one in the state of Jharkhand and one in
T.Nadu.
In Jharkhand the Mobile education unit is covering the different
government, private and organisational schools.
In the school education
programs, the children are given visual treats to the environmental
sciences, entertainment and educational programs . It has been found that
this mobile education unit attracts large number of children to the
centres. On the day when this unit is in the schools the attendance of the
children has been 100%. It has been assessed that this has been one of the
most popular forms of education. Since the area is remote and
inaccessible, and there are no communicable roads or electricity, there
are no means of entertainment for the people through the electronic media.
Hence this education attracts the children to a greater extent.
Among the community this media is used for bringing in the programs
available through the government schemes. The field publicity unit of the
ministry of information is supposed to bring in these programs to the
field. Due to its absence their messages are brought to the field by AID
to enable the people to understand what programs are available for them.
In fact, during the National Pulse Polio campaigns this was the only way
the messages could be reached to the far-flung villages about the need to
compulsorily immunise their children.
The women groups are also mobilised through this media by exclusive
programs for them dealing with issues on health, violence towards women,
thrift and credit schemes, and generally how the adoption of income
generation programs allows women to stand economically on their own feet.
On the whole this mobile education unit has been a great success in Bihar.
In some of the villages the villagers are
not satisfied with the 2 hours of the program and request the unit to show
it once more, sometimes this request has to be satisfied.
Number of children covered 13423
Community members 27,184
Through these mobile information support initiative, the right to
information on various science and health related matters were provided to
the rural poor in their door steps.
