The mobile health
education unit of Jharkhand is exclusively used for bringing in
awareness messages on issues of health, thrift and credit and avenues
for income generation.
This unit has brought
about lot of difference especially in the lives of the adolescent girls
and boys. The messages on STD/ HIV/ AIDS have been an eye-opener for
them. Until then a number of adolescents had pre-marital relationships
with unsafe sex practices. Now the message has reached them and they
approach the AID for further counseling on this issue.
It has been found that the
message of STD/ HIV/ AIDS was better received through electronic media
as, initially, this subject was shunned and not allowed for discussion
in the community circles.
Dramas and skits are
depicted on the issues of early marriage, female infanticide and small
family norms.
The mobile education was
eye opener for the community members on the issues related to various
avenues for income generation.
Thus the mobile education
in both the states of Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand have had a tremendous
impact. The mobile education unit has so far covered 1,35,952 people.
