The state of Jharkhand is
besieged with the administrative ills in the form of the collapse of the
primary health centres which, are the basic succor to the rural poor for
any health needs.
In the absence of the
government health units the only recourse available to the poor is the
indigenous practitioners.
The scene is so pathetic
that even to this day people die due to malaria and diarrhea. The
anti-natal and post-natal care is not available and the survival of the
pregnant mother and child is determined as fate of god.
AID has combination of
services with major focus on preventive health with curaative services
where required. It has linked up the services of the ICDS so that these
reach the children in the villages.
Initially along with lack
of medical facilities, there was faith in black magic and witchcraft. The
sick family had to spend a lot of money for the sacrifice of the animals
such as goat and chicken. The belief in evil spirits led to the increased
mortality of men ,women and children. This scene is slowly changing with
the health awareness programs in the region.
