The lilteracy level in
Jharkhand for women is as low as 5%. Majority of the tribal women in the
block live in a state of ignorance, deprivation and neglect. Added to
their indebtedness and continuous exploitation made their lives miserable.
Illiteracy was identified as one of the most serious problem .160 non
formal education centres catering to the needs of 4800 women were carried
out.The non formal education centres have helped to bridge the link
between the government health institute and the tribal women.
Women were able to get skill training as well as literacy skills.
The women group formation and taking up the issues of forest department
harassment and the intimidation was brought to the main platform and now
these issues are solved in the affected villages.
The nonformal centres not only acted for imparting literacy but converted
into community institutions to take up the issues of local and common
importance.
