AID - Jharkhand (East-singhbhum Chapter)

 

A package integrated program to address the multipronged problems such as educational, economical, social, health and environmental problems of tribal women through community institutions such as Women resource centres was conceived.

160 Women centers catering to the needs of 4800 women are being run.

The resource centre aids the women under the following :
Literacy programs
Organisation building
Health awareness programs
Small savings (Mahila Kosh)
Vocational skill training programs
Employment
Informal co-operataives

It is ensured that the entire spectrum of the women's need are addressed in the women resource centres.

With the establishment of the women resource centres the village common issues and in particular the issues related to the women are brought forth for immediate attention of the concerned panchayats.

The neglected sphere of health is addressed through various nutrition demonstration programs and health awareness camps.

The intiation of the thrift and credit programs has encouraged women to adopt to regular savings and do away with the middle men for all the small loans they require.

Prior to intiation of the Women Resource centres the women had to purely depend only on agricultural labour. But now with the introduction of various vocational trainings such as tailoring, mushroom, rice trading, horticulture, animal husbandary, the women are able to engage themselves in economic activities throughout the year and thus enhancing their economic status.
